A Sermon for the Week HAVE FAITH IN GOD By Rev. Charles E. Ward Pastor First Congregational Church) This U a wistful a;e in relision. Man's powers b&ve far out distanced his sprltlual attainments and there la a craving, orteu unexpressed, for that food and fellowship that enable the soul to live. , ; We have invented machinery, harnessed the waterfalls, dug the coal and released the gas and oil from the earth to do our errands. , Our luxuries and leisure hours have increased many times in the last generation, but these have ccme at the cost of spiritual life. The masses have interested themselves so largely in the making of things and in their enjoyment that God Jiaa been lost Irom life And life becomes empty, even for the .rich, when God is lost! "For what doth It profit a man If he gain the whole world" at the price of his own soul? . "; , The late Franklin K.- Lane expressed this wiatful longing for spiritual life In one of his intimate letters: ."X do not think we shall change this world much for the good by any material istic philosophy or by any shifting of economic affairs. We need a, revival a belief In something bigger than ourselves and more lasting than the world." " Jesus calla across the centuries; "Hate faith in God, believe also in me," without spiritual life thaw Is no abundant life pos- slble for man; - - - " . conference which big event in church circles for turned lor by the Milt street group and already acceded to by the Swedish conference, will go through.
