No agency has been more effective than the Boy Scouts of America in bringing to young men character development and citizenship training. ' Through his scout work, the boy learns to keep himself physically fit, to enjoy and understand the wholesome pleasures of out-of-doors, to know the uses of team work as he helps the other fellow, and, at the same time, tries to make the best of himself, to value American traditions and princi ples, and to realize that good eitizenship'means service. Last year 1,183,105 scouts and scout executives took part in the activ ities of this organization. Every dollar of money invested and every hour of time spent in this work brought returns of the highest value, not only , to the men and boys connected with scouting, but to their communities and their country. I hope the people of Oregon, will respond generously and cheerfully to the appeal for funds made by the Boy Scouts of America in order that the fine service of this organization may be continued and enlarged. Signed: I. L. PATTERSON, I Governor. of Oregon. WON PL ACE IN SALEM In every community there are four major agencies which care for the boys and girls and for the general welfare and relief work, these agencies ccupy nearly the whole field, but with comparatively little overlapping or duplication, so that to be interested in one is to have an appreciation and interest In the others as welL The boy scouts have won a place in Salem by the quality of work done. They supply a real need and richly deserve our support. f 'Si tN-v' - " PAJL B WALLACE. Because of the high standards set by the Boy Scouts, because of the great importance to the state, the nation and our city of this rapidly growing institution, it is eminently fitting that it should receive whole-hearted sup port from every citizen. Authorities everywhere are agreed that, Amer ica's destiny is an enduring one under the. leadership that is inspired by the Scout Oath and Law. B. C. SISSON, President, x Salem Chamber of Commerce.
