Lichty entertained a few friends Saturday evening. Five hundred was played and late In the evening a dainty luncheon was served by the hostess assist ed by her daughters, the Misses Nora and Myrene Lichty. The quests were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon VanCleave; Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Hall and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Simmons. Mrs. A. A. Hall and Mrs. Rob ert Bye. Jr.. entertained last Wed nesday afternoon with an enjoy able party at the Hall home A very clever luncheon was Served at the end of the afternoon. Those present were Mrs. Poarl Wood. Mrs. H. L. Lichty. Miss My rene Lichty. Mrs. Clarence Sim mons, Mrs. R. C. Ramsden, Mrs. J. Lauderback. Mrs. R. II. Bye, Mrs. Robert Janz, Mrs. C. Lelch tr. Mrs. Dan Steffen, Mrs. Henry Werner. Mrs. Milne. Mr and Mrs. Lowis Hall and Mr. and Mrs. Llnd qulst. Ralph Janz of Oregon City who broke his knee recently, haa been a guest of his brother, Robert Janz. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Janz have also been visiting the Robert Janz family during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Byp. Jr.. spent the week end with friends at Turner. m Miss Opal Peterson o-f Los An geles, who is visniting with hr colnin. Miss Faye Ramsden, went to Portland on Saturday to go akiing with friends. She returned on Monday evening. Two Birthdays Are Celebrated Route One Now Longest Out of Salem, 51 Miles ZENA. Ore.. Dec. 12. (Spe cial) J. J. Moritz. rural carrier on route One out of Salem, was In this vicinity Thursday arrang ing to have mail boxes grouped where possible. On December 1 Mr. Morits added six miles to his route, making it approximately 51 miles, the longest route out of Salem. A meeting was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. II Scott Thursday evening to arrange number s for the Christmas pro gram which the Zena Community club will join with the Zena school in giving. Friday evening, December 21. R. H. Scott, pres ident of the Zena Community club, and Mrs. W. N. Crawford, chairman of the program commit tee, represented the Zena Com munity club and the teachers of the Zena school. Miss Lillian Rey nolds and Mfss Louise Seefeld had charge of the program arrange ments for the school. Mr. and Mrs. Scott entertained Miss Rey nolds and Miss Seefeld at a 7:00 o'clock dinner preceding the ex ecutive meeting. Mrs. M. Holdredge who was a visitor her dnrlng October and November at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. MeTrlck. has begun her work as attendant at the babies' cottage at the institute for feeble minded. Mr. and Mrs. Holdredge owned a farm t Cottage Grove which they sold recently, and both are employed at the institute. Mr. Holdredge Is overseer of farming operations. 1 :Yl. FUNERAL IS HELD WOODBURN, Ore., Dec. It. Special Funeral services for Harry I Bomhoff. who died In Tillamook. last Thursday, were 'ield In the First Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon. Inter ment was In Belle Pass! ceme tery. Mr. Bomhoff was the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Bomhoff of this city and was 30 years old at the time of his death. An ex-service man who served with the 162nd Infantry, be has been In poor health since the war. He is survived bf a brother. Walter. three sisters. Mrs Carl Custaf- son of this city. Mrs. -v. H. Hud dleston. of Portland. Mrs. Grace Wilson, of Portland, and his par ents and widow. The funeral services were un der the auspices of the B. P. O. E. The American Legion was also represented. Pallbearers ware El born Sims. Clyde Whitman. Bert Broyles. Granville Alleman and Lester Harper. A firing squad from the Howitzer company paid tribute at the cemetery. Beckman Home Scene Of Party For Play Cast HUBBARD. Ore.. Dec. 12. (Special) The L. A. Beckman home was the scene of a delight ful affair Monday night. The women who took part In the play "How the Story Grew" whlebTwas recently presented at the bazaar. held by the Hubbard woman's club, their husbands and the pres ident and vice-president of the club. Mrs. Vera Boje, and Mrs Neva McKenzie. were entertained with a five hundred party by Mrs. Kathleen Beckman and Mrs. Lou ise Grlmps. Members of the play cast. Mes dames Mabel Crolaant, Louise Grlmps, Kathleen Beckman. Ida Garland. Ella Stauffer, Ethel Ril ey. Anna Stauffer. and Maud Bid good wore the old fashioned cos tumes of the play while the direc tor, Mrs. Coble de Lesplnasse, ap peared In a clever clown suit and Mrs. Vera Boje and Mrs. Neva Mc Kenzie posed as newlyweda, Mrs. Boje taking the part of the man. The high score for the evening was won by Mrs. Ida Garland and Mrs. Julius Stauffer; the second by Mrs. Ella Stauffer and George Gnmps. F. de Lesplnasse was crowded off the pavement Monday evening by another car as he was passing a north-bound stage while return ing from Oregon City where he has charge of the high school band.
