Arrangements were completed for the annual chapter picnic which will be held Tuesday after noon and evening at Haxel Green 4 Park. Th? afternoon will be spent with Ktunts and outdoor games. The pUnic dinner will be served at six thirty o'clock. Members areasked to bring baskets and the neces sary silver and dishes for their own families. Coffee and ice cream will be furnished. Interesting Exhibit of Work at State Tubercu losis Hospital An interesting eihibit of work dene by the patients at the State Tuberculosis hospital is now on exhibit at the hospital. A number of the articles of the display which includes bead work, em broidery, crochet work, andfrand xnade flowers, will be sold. This is the annual display of work done within the year, and the general public is invited to at tead. The exhibit will close Sunday eveaing. Piano Students of Miss Elma Weller Will Present Recital A - group of the piano students of Miss Elma Weller will be pre sented io recital tomorrow eve ning, fn the concert hall of the Kkvn building. G. Franklin and Miss Renska Swart were hostesses at the meeting of the Writer's Sec tion of the Salem Arts League Tuesday evening in the Franklin home on Marion street. Miss Grace Elisabeth Smith opened the evening's program with a story entitled, "What Next" one of a series of such articles vhich she is writing. Two original poems, "This is Summer," and "Summer's Day" x-ere read by Mrs. Blanche M. Jones. Dr. Mary C. Rowland des cribed the design of the- block print which she is making. Mrs. B. L. Steeves, a new mem ber of the club, read two delight ful children's stories. "Goldie" and "The Love Letter." , "The Sea God" was read by the1 author, Charles J. Lisle. Mrs. Lisle gave an interesting talk on birds, and Robert C. Paulas ipoke of the meeting of the North west Writer's League which will be held in Portland later in the iummer. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Franklin and Miss Swart at the close of the evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Nelson, Mrs. Blanche M. Jones, Mrs. B. L. Steeves, Dr. Mary C. Daughters of Veterans Enter tain With Delighftul Afternoon Affair A delightful affair of the week was the afternoon tea for which the Daughters of Veterans enter ained Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. E. Bergman on Chemeketa street for the pleasure of the G. A. R. and allied organi zations. "Seventy-five guests called be tween the hours of two-thirty and five o clock. Tea tables were ar ranged on the veranda and dining room with Mrs. F. L. Waters and Mrs. J. W. Nash presiding. Mrs. Gladys Eckerson and Miss Esther Horning assisted in serving. Mrs. C. N. Need ham, Mrs. O. H. Horning. Mrs. F. A. Elliott, and Mrs. Bergman greeted the guests. The affair took place in the lovely gardens of the Bergman home on the banks of Mill creek. The informal program included vocal and instrumental numbers. All Day Meeting of Ladies Aid Society, W. R. C. An all-day meeting of the La dies' Aid society of the Woman's Relief Corps will be held today at the Fairgrounds. Sr., who with Mr. McGilchrist will leave next week for a year's stay abroad. The afternoon was spent on the eranda which was decorated with i profusion of purple, white, and pink canterbury bells. Miss Kaiherine Hartley Will Attend National Convention of Alpha Chi Omega Miss Katherine Hartley left I Wednesday morning for Mackinac Island to attend the national con vention of Alpha Chi Omega. Miss Hartley will be Joined at Spokane by 10 of her sorority sisters from the chapter at the University of Washington. The young women will make the trip from Chicago on a chartered boat, the S. S. Conven tion in Roseburg Members of the Woman's Relief Corps have chartered a bus to take them to the G. A. R. convention which will be held in Roseburg. Wednesday. Thursday, and Friday June 27, 28 and 29. Eighteen members of the Corps have made arrangements to go and the fare will be 35.40. Plans for the convention will be com pleted at the meeting of the W. R. C. this afternoon. Interesting Picnic Tuesday Evening at Hagefs Grove The employees of Stiffs furni ture store and their friends en joyed a picnic Tuesday evening at Hager's Grove.
