Course, there are families that dost eat as many of these green products as the food experts say they should, but oerhaos that's be cause; they don't realize just what a variety is procurable right down; town here. And especially in the springtime should plenty of greea food . be ? eaten, say these . food cranks.'. x Bare, - it's hard - to call rising rirers. continual rain and floods spring, but the. calendar says it is. So. to help the-cause along, here's some -of the things the shopper will find to go in her grocery plans for the week-end. or -all next week, and how it looks, too. . L . Celery, next to that shredded cereal, the. greatest "broom of the stomach looks good again this week, . though, as noticeable , for some time, it is the heart that ap pears the most appetising. Did yon-erer try some nice crisp stalks cut fine, mixed with some lettace, shrimp -and mayonnaise? It's a good wholesome salad. But that's only one of dozens of ways to use celery. Lettace, too. 1s going to present itself in excellent shape for the week-end buyer and will be utiliz ed in plenty of salads and sand wiches, no doubt. Yoa can bay a head of lettuce tor as little as fire centa though it'll be a little head, too. The fan cy ones cost somewhere around 1 5 cents each or two for a quarter. though there seem to be almost as many prices as stores. And dit to for celery. Used to be only little boys and girls ate carrots, turnips, and even parsnips raw. .Nowadays, it's quite the thing in well regulated famll ies for at least one raw dish (of vegetables ) to appear, on the table this week-end will be pretty small, but good eating nevertheless, if what the market writer, saw yes terday is any Indication. The smaller chockes are cheaper, . at sounds reasonable. once a day, or oftener. What prog ress we make I Electric stoves and dietary experts will soon reduce cooking or Want of it to rwhere there will no longer be any Norahs But to return to the carrlts, et cetera. Both the old and new car rot crops are on hand now, and both good, even though the more expensive ones do' look sickly along side their mature brethern. The Wraipe and parsnips are plen tifal and good, also. Rutabagas and beets are other root vegetables that are still mak ing a bide for the housewife's fa vor. The former look solid and eookable enough, but hero and there are seen beets that few cooks would consider bothering with. Some look old, and others are pret ty small, f. j 3 e BLANKS THAT ARE LEGAL We carry in stock over 115 legal blanks suited to most any business transactions. LEGAL BLANK HEADQUARTERS At Business Office, Ground Floor Broccoli continues to make an excellent appearance In the vegeta ble bins, and more, ft has the goods behind the locks. Few peo ple who like broccoli or cauli flower need go without It at the low price of two pounds for 15 cents. Or you can buy it by the piece just as reasonable. California cabbage continues to go oer the counter at five cents per pound, and is as good as any cook would expect. In fact. It's a new crop. Spokane is aiso supply ing some cabbage, although the Wlnuincstadt variety from. the oath is rated the best right now. - Spinach and the popular - curly leaf green, and mustards also, sup ply a field from which green-eaters may pick to their liking. Prices too. are- reasonable enough, as youll notice. - -. Peas, peppers and parsley may all be obtained right downtown. The discriminating buyer will see that she carries home the best of the fresh green peas, while others may get some not so good, yet still good enough to make a real vege table for the meal. Like everything else, peas get dumpy looking as they go without buyers for too long a period. Peppers that you buy now will probably not be as nice as those the merchants offered awhile back, but if you use them right away, you'll hardly notice the difference. To be sure, you may do your shop ping at one of the stores where some of the better keeping stock is still on hand. Parsley doesn't seem to have an over abundant market, but maybe that is because mother grows a lit tle patch by the side of the house. But it is a pretty trimming and gives soup a good flavor. Just as hints. New potatoes are seen in more plentiful number now and inci dentally, at a little lower price, fwo pounds for 25 cents and up and down, depending upon where you buy, not to mention other price-determining incidentals. Asparagus is still new enough, also, to bit the consumer at a pretty fair clip. Two pounds for 3 a cents la probably about the best rate that you'll get. It s all good, though it's custom tor the fancy grades to look the best. Creamed asparagus and toast! Yum, yum. A carefully designed hat must be suited to the figure, say home economics specialists. It is always best in selecting a hat to choose it before a full length mirror so that the entire figure Jnay be taken into consideration. The hat may not be in good proportion to the shoulders, hips, or posture. The woman of average slender weight does not have the problems which confront her tall slender sister or her short stout one.
