prepared by Harry B. Boland for the two
story house shown today, a house well
adapted to the needs of the medium-sized
family.
The first floor plan is divided into three
units, the large living room and dining
room, the kitchen, breakfast nook and rear
entry, and the bedroom and lavoratory
The units are connected by means of a cen
tral hall, from which access to the upper
story is had.
On the second floor are two bed-chambers
and the bathroom. These three rooms
open into a hall which also is the landing
for. the stairway.
By use of shingles, half timbered gables
and a charming porch the exterior of the
house has a distinctive appearance.
Two sets of blue prints of this plan will
be furnished at moderate cost on applica

"Lumber dealers throughout the
eastern and middle states sections
of the country report a most de
cided reaction in favor of wood
during the past six nonths for
use in construction," declared C.
J. Hogue, field manager of the
West Coast Lumber Bureau, wbo
has just returned from a six
weeks trip covering: the larger
lumber buying and using sections
of the Atlantic seaboard and the
middle west. While . east Hogue
aftended several national conven
tions of building organizations and
conferred with leading architects.

"Lumber never had a better op
portunity than now to sell wood
on its merits," Hogue stated.'
"For five or six years past and
up until about 12 months ago
lumber was suffering! because of
the multitude of substitutes of
fered to architects, engineers and
home builders -he said. "This
was the period of technical edu
cation for the builder as most of
these substitutes were sold, on
manufacturers'; statement of tech'
nical properties. Wood construc
tion suffered during this, time be
cause lumber waa'not exploited, as
a building- material having- defi
nite technical values. Lumber was
lust lumber; one was urged to bay
something else because the manu
facturer believed it was better
than wood for the purpose and of
fered technical information to
prove his belief." i
