J. Hogue, field manager of the West Coast Lumber Bureau, wbo has just returned from a six weeks trip covering: the larger lumber buying and using sections of the Atlantic seaboard and the middle west. While . east Hogue aftended several national conven tions of building organizations and conferred with leading architects. builders and lumber dealers. "Lumber never had a better op portunity than now to sell wood on its merits," Hogue stated.' "For five or six years past and up until about 12 months ago lumber was suffering! because of the multitude of substitutes of fered to architects, engineers and home builders -he said. "This was the period of technical edu cation for the builder as most of these substitutes were sold, on manufacturers'; statement of tech' nical properties. Wood construc tion suffered during this, time be cause lumber waa'not exploited, as a building- material having- defi nite technical values. Lumber was lust lumber; one was urged to bay something else because the manu facturer believed it was better than wood for the purpose and of fered technical information to prove his belief." i .
