Attorneys said that the de cision of the United States su preme court today exhausted all legal maneuvers to save the men from the gallows. Tom Murray, third member of the trio .Involved in the prison break, also was convicted of first- degree murder. He subsequently committed suicide in the orison. Bert (Oregon) Jones, another con vict who participated in the break and shooting, was killed as he at tempted to scale the penitentiary wall. These chil dren have read sixteen readers this last semester. At present they are using sentence i cards which were printed for ' third grade flash cards. Enthusiasm was roused by a sand table project, This project ws a miniature city having all the street signs, busi ness signs, posters and advertise ments of any modern city, hen the children succeeded in reading one set of signs, another, posters and advertisements of any modern city. When the children succeed ed in reading one set of signs, an other set was put, in their places. Pictures were taken and sent east where they were published in an eastern Journal. Baseball season has opened with a game scheduled with Rich mond at Richmond May 19 and a game with Grant at Englewood, May 24. An organization of Campfire Girls has been formed with a membership 'of 14. The work? Is under the direction of Miss Georgia Crofoot. Weekly meet ings are held after school at the homes of the different members. A small garden club has been formed under the leadership of Miss Crofoot. Bligh and about one hundred Others, seeking to change the name of High street to Broadway, was handed to the city council last night at its regular meeting. The petition was referred to the zoning commission for considera tion, i ' Other minor matters coming be fore the council were approval to sign a contract with the American Legion for the sponsoring of the band concerts in Wilson park this summer. The legionnaires" are to stand expense of the band if the council cannot line up money suf ficient to finance the concerts. The matter of the children's playground was referred to the ways and means committee. No money Is provided in the city bud get for the playground this year, it was said, but a local service club is to finance the work. Next year, an amount sufficient to main tain a playground will be included m the budget, Alderman Dancy stated. Hug. who returned Sunday from Seattle where he at tended meetings of that organiza tion. Superintendent Hug Is president of the, association. Segregation of pupils into classes according to ability; whether the courses offered in college are of practical value to the teachers in the profession; whether extra-curricular activities assumed by high school students are of sufficient value to counter act the time and energy expend ed on them; and how large a class teachers can handle without lowering efficiency are the prob lems which will be surveyed.
