house is ideally adapted to the
nor mar sized city lot, occupying
as it does, a 32 by, Z foot
ground area.
One of the features of the
plan is that all the rooms are on
the ground floor and yet are of
a size consistent with good
house management and comfort
for tenants. . The living room
and dining room extend across
the front, separated from each
other by an arched partition or
by French doors, depending
on the choice of the builder.
The two bed chambers are at
the rear with communication, to
the bathroom provided by a

The principal softwood mills of
the country during the nine weeks
ended March 5, had sold twelve
per cent more than they produced,
while in the corresponding period
of last year the excess of sales
over cut was thirteen per cent.
Softwood lumber has not yet had
time, therefore, to reflect the
stronger situation that is develop
ing, though mill prjees do show
more firmness. Retail yards have
just begun to move lumber to
jobs and tney have had little need
for other tian fill-in assortments.
None of the lumber producing
regions have heavy, stocks, and a
good many of the retail distribu
ters have been buying so cautious
ly that their holdings are at a low
point, so that-the starting up of
the spring movement from the
mills is expected to bring about
an early advance in quotations, as
in general softwoods are selling
at unprofitable levels.
Hardwood demand is said to be
broadening out. sales, at automo
bile plants continuing good, while
more business is coming from fTTe
furniture maker. Building trades
demand for such items as floor
ing and trim normally lags a few
weeks behind that for other con
struction Items, but the outlook
for good sales of such material,
and of export ; items, is nqwjyery
promising. Buying has been con
fined largely to a few industries,
and these have, been taking only
their current needs, so that prices
have remained rather weak, but
they are expected to show early
gains.
