'.Solving the parking problem
for the drivers of 572 motor cars,
a novel garage is being operated
in "waste, space" in the Pur Oil
Building of Chicago.
With its 47 stories of jbright
terra cotta surface dominating the
new Wacker Drive, the Pure Oil
structure is externally, a typical
modern office building.' But it
houses more than nere of flees. At
the very core of the building, in
the location . sometimes left as a
court or light-well, fireproof par
titions have been built, and a gar
age installed, up to the 21st story.
The offices obtain all the light
necessary 'rom the outside9 of the
building, where the view is ttnob-.
structed on all sides. '
Autos enCer the building; from
the lower level of the new two-''
deck Wacker Drive. From the
moment the owner shuts off his
engine and .turns the car over to
the garage, the parking operation
is automatic. The auto is;lifted;
by an elevator, and rolled to its
proper stall by tilting floors.
The Pure Oil building itself,
with its; striking "terra cotta walls
rising high above its neighbors, is
one of the outstanding structures
of Chicago.
