Flynn, of a motor which it is predicted will be worth a, billion dollars to the electric power industry. The motor, re cently awarded the John .Price Wetherill Medal by the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia, is said to make it possible to use electri cal equipment to a greater extent. FOOL PROOF SAFETY DEVICE IS MUTED BALTIMORE, May 29. (U. T. P. S.) Go slow! This admonition seen at danger ous rail road crossings, curves and grades may seen be as superfluous as an ice manufacturing machine at the North Pole. A new invention, patented by a Baltimore man, compels the auto mobile to slow down at such points no matter how hard the operator "steps on it" it is asserted. Charles Adler, Jr., a safety engineer, is the inventor. The device controls the speed through ignition. The power of the automobile exceeding the speed limit set on the device (and any limit may be set) when cross ing a magnet set in the roadbed is automatically cut off. It is re stored later by another magnet. The device consists, esentlally of a powerful magnet concealed in a concrete box -buried beneath the surface of the roadway at a prope distance from the railroad crossing. As the approaching car passes over the magnet it operates a small relay fitted -in a metal box on the front axle of the car a few Inches above the ground. This action continues -until the road magnet at the danger point is reached, when another impulse is received that causes the pendu- 0.50 Hum armature to swing back and close its ontact, thereby restoring the ignition circuit to its normal path.
