These three games prored to be the three Tastest yet put on in tbe tournament and the system of consolation games prored its worth. ; Tbe 1 first ' game was captured by the Baker quintet from the Marshfield boys by a 28-19 score. The southern lads took the -first part of the game but were forced out In the last half by the super ior shooting and maneurerings of the Baker fire. 1 Medford came back after her defeat last night and beat the fast The Dalles team by 22 to 9 score, this being the only one sided score up to date.'. There is a possibility that the team . of the St. Mary's college in California will be signed for a game, it was stated. Third Game The rictory of Eugene orer Grant last night by the score of 32 to 19, upset all the dope of the tournament in the semi-finals. Eugene showed the edge in offen sive team work,' while her defen sive was perfect l The latter prored to be the downfall of the; Grant five, in that ' time after , time she ' would break loose and would bring the ball down the floor, only to run into Eugene's-guard and lose the ball. Wirt h. of Eugene, was the staryof the erening with his ex cellent snooting ana . oiiensire game. I Wirth scored 11 points in the first three quarters of the game; and was followed; by his teammat$ Horner who garnered eight coun& era. In the first part of the gams. both teams took j to shooting long shots, but Eugene tightened up In the final canto and scored more continuously. 1 Another of Grant's weakness layj in ; her failure to follow up her j shots. Eugene guards returned practically all of Grant's shots. (This game puts the purple and white into the finals against Sa lem tonight at 8:30. This game promises to be the whis of the season..., f-'i - :-;'---4 ' To show the gain by Eugene as the' game . progressed, the first quarter ended C to 4 for Grant, the half 12 to 10 for Eugene, the third quarter turned the tide and the period ended 23 to 14 for Eu gene. No SALEM HI E -FINALS BY SHOTS McLoughlin Five Sent Into Second Series bv Score : of 31 to 18 By DON DECKED ACH Foorthi Game ! i Playing undoubtedly her fast est .game of the season, Salem high, school defeated the Mc Loughlin team Friday night, with a score of 31-19. By winning the game, the last semi-final of the erening. Salem has won the right to face Eugene high school this erening for the final clash for the state championship. Salem took no chance in allow ing the McLoughlin boys to snuff out her chances to play in the final round. From the middle of the first quarter until well toward the end of the game she worked insistently and steadily for points. The start of the game was weak with the edge going to McLough lin. Olinger and R. Drager start ed the scoring for the locals by making fire successive long field goals. These two men are in guard positions and their free scoring was a feature of the game. K. ,Potts started the scoring for McLoughlin by conrerting a foul called on Duffey. Duffey then made the score in Salem's faror by throwing two consecutive fouls called on Johnson. McLoughlin's scoring for the first quarter was completed when Karker and John son threw two goals making the score 5 to 2. Salem's guards then got busy and the quarter ended 10 to 5 in Salem's faror. In the following quarter Mc Loughlin made but one point, a free throw by Weir, while Salem romped wild, tallying six goals and one free throw. Salem's forward-center combination started to function in this canto and re mained working throughout the game. The half ended with Salem in possession of the large end of a 23-6 score. The next quarter was one of much action and little scoring, both teams only chalking up two points each. The last period, howerer, saw the downfall of Mc Loughlin. Salem sent in her three subs who scored three goals to their opponents' four goals and one free thr ow. McLoughlin started the quarter with two throws followed by Salem's last three goals of the game. The east erners then ended the scoring with two goals and two free throws. One feature of this game and the McLoughlin-Astoria game of :-the morning was the unwilling ness of the fire in adrance to stall the game by keeping the ball out of their territory in the last few minutes of play. The second period of the fray prored to be serious to two players, one on each team. J. Drager of Salem receired a cut above his eye when be came in contact with Karker of AicLougniin. Karker .s nose entered the melee only to start bleeding later on in the game. Duffey, of the locals, prored to be the high point man of the game with 12 points to his credit. It Drager was Becond with seven counters and was tied by Johnson of McLoughlin who headed the list on his team. No one was put out on four personals in the game, though Selgmund of Salem re ceired three. Coleman refereed this ,ame as well as the first one' in tha erening. .
