This announcement was made yesterday- br Chairman ftAH Matheny of .the American Legion wrestling: committee-following his return from Portland where he interviewed Jones. Chairman Matheny reports that the two men have ironed out their differences as to the conditions of the return match, and that Jones has yielded on several points upon which he was holding out, largely because of his anxiety to return to his home at Provo, Utah, In time for Christmas. One thing he agreed to fore swear was a match prior to his meeting Reed. lie had until Sat urday expressed a wish to meet some other- man before going again to the mat with Reed, and accordingly he was slated for a boutwith Roy Carver of San Prancisc next Friday nijiht. As a result of the changed atti tude of the former western cham pion, however, this match has neea called off. and the Reed Jones match substituted. One reason why Jones was will- to make the concessions. Matheny said, is that was told while there that the former champion looks whole lot better now than when he start ed training there. .-r; jw-v He has been making Yokel look, like an amateur, spectators told Matheny, and were the two matched YokeL would by no means be the favorite. ShHting houses bodily several miSes, and towns some yards along the level, has often been done, bitt nuising a whole town five feet is some thing new. That -im claimed to have been accomplished .liy the surveyor of this town 3ii just under three years. The entire business portion of Xorthw4-h, in cluding ten streets, three hanks, the county court and 200 stores and bouses, have been raised to counteract the effect of subsidence caused by the brine pumping which proceeds continually 'in th salt mines under the town. There has been no stoppage of business and only sight buildings, including an ancient inn. have had to be demolished because they could not 'be safely lifted. In raising operations, parts of the lower brick work were re moved and small hydraulic jacks inserted. Chemists' stores were ntteu so carefully that ont one bottle was disturbed. The town bridge was raised five feet at each end to bring it up to tlio new level of the town Condon New 20-mile logging route being surveyed to pine for ests in Wheeleri county. Beareat hoopers started out their season with a gusto when they defeated the Oregon Mate Normal o.uintet last nighi 43-13. The game was the first of the sea son to be played at the Willam ette gym. Fouls were plentiful, as ,is usual in early season, although the game was not rough. Mori- mouth .put up a game fight, but were no match for the Bearcats. The big weakness of the teachers was inability to connect with' the baskets. Good team work for this stace of the season was displayed by the Willamette first squad. ' With Hartley at center. Robertson .and Fasnacht at forward '.and .Prick son at guard, all but one. of last year's combination opened the fray. Flosher filled in tho odd position at guard. Willamette started in the first half, using a play from the jump. Roberu-on or Fasnacht would grab the ball on the break from center, shoot, it to the other for ward, who would try for the basket. Fasnacht showed well at follow ing up his shots, usually manag ing to get an extra shot for every long try. Robertson featured long shots. Erickson played a stiff "guard game. With but a few minutes left till the end ot the first half. Wil lamette's second team was brought into action. This revealed good work -on the "part, of Roundtree, forward. . . At the start of the second half the first team' was put into action, once more. When the score had been run up considerably, the second uquad was given another chance. The third squad of. the Bearcats were called to carry on the game. .The teachers started a rally that netted tueui tWee bas kets. - - The lineup follows: Willamette" Monmouth Fasnacht ( 12)-rf....'.
