SEPULCHRE IS PREPARED AGED MIXEU HEWS TOMB FROM WALLS OF CUFF SACRAMENTO. Cal.. Oct. 29. (By Associated Press.) -For 18 years William .M- Bowman, ai-year-old pioneer, of the. gold days, has been chiseling from the rocks of a lonely promontory in EI Do rado county, probably the most unique sepulchre in California. , There the aged miner plans to lie down, as he feels death near at hand, and when the end comes, be sealed in the granite tomb by friends. ' ; .. r This was the "story brought here today "by El Dorado county min era. friends of the pioneer. ,i Nearly 20 years ago Bowman conceived the- plan to construct his grave on, a 200-foot promon tory on Bowman point, between El Dorado and Latrobe, the min ers said. He hollowed ,put the grave, fitted it with a coffin and selected .four friends to be pall bearers. - Since then two of the friends have died, so Bowman built a "death house" enclosing the grave and headstone, which he also has made. The nifner said that the early settler will live in the house at his grave t. await death,, and when he believe the final hour is approaching, iw.Ul draw a white flag to the top o a pole, a signal that the tomb u ready ' to be ealed. Ny - ! RADIO TO CHECK TRAINS NEW SAFETY DEVICE SUC CESSFUL IX DEMONSTRATION are pumped into the rails by a roadside unit. "The loop collector coils are equipped with variable conden sers for tuning each coil to the wave length propagated in the rails. These coils transmit the various wave lengths to the vis ual signal device in the engine cab!" This consists of three lights red for danger, yellow for can tion and green for clear track ahead. These signals give the en gineer advance information on the condition of the track ahead. DETROIT, Oct., 29. (By Asso ciated . Press.) A radio operated safety device that checks speeding locomotives automatically when danger looms ahead, ha3 been giv en a successful demonstration over 10 mile stretch of Pere Mar quette tracks. The4est was in the presence of officials of the Pere Marquette and the Michigan Cen tral and Thomas E. Clark of De troit, inventor of the' device. By means of a system radio con trolled siKnal lights in the engine cab it was demonstrated that the engineer can be forewarned of danger many minutes in advance Should the engineer be disabled the system control checks the en gines' speed and brings it to a halt at any danger point, at any time. Mr.' Clark explained his inven tion: - "The success of continuous con trol depends on the propagation of electro magnetic waves flowing n the track rails, these waveB be ing picked up by loop collector eoils under the pilot. - The waves SKULL FRACTURED IX JAIL SEATTLE Oct. 29. " AITH is senerallv understood to be Implied acceptance of the V statements of the Bible and belief in the divinity of Jesus and "V His works and teachings. As the term is used in the New Tes tament it has a broader and deeper meaning. Paul in Hebrews XI defines it as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' A the term is popularly used it defines a mental attitude, a state of mind. Paul's definition makes faith a much more active and vital thing. He gives . it power and substance. It is manifest that it is not a' physical substance but from the references In the New Testament to faith and its accomplishments it may be termed spiritual or divine power. -It is common in these days to hear even religious people say that they 'do not believe in the miracles of Jesus and to hear argu - ments tending to prove these miracles are Impossible because contrary ' to the laws of nature. , " Who would have the conceit to say la this age of the world, with air ships weighing thousands of pounds sailing over his head at a speed of more than, one hundred miles per hous, that a man weighing one hundred and fifty pounds, possessed of -a divine p6wer that he does not yet understand, could not walk Open the water that has a density many times greater than that of the air? Because. we do not know of the cleansing, healing and life giving power -of the .Divine Spirit and its emanations, shall we say that the touch or even the presence of one animated by that spirit 'could not heal and make whole a diseased body of one who was In its presence?.- ' 'The trouble with us tn. this age is that we are disposed. to meas " nre eventM" b" th standard of our physical knowledge and to give no heed to laws and forces that are above and finer and more power ful than any physical law with which we are acquainted. Anything ' -net done in accordance with these physical laws is said to be a miracle and is declared to be Impossible. We have not yet come to recognize -.that there are laws and forces higher than the physical and that the .operations of these higher laws and forces is Just as fixed and certain as is the operation of the physical laws. We must some day come to an understanding of this fact and when we do we shall know that the work attributed to Jesus, and termed miracles, are a glorious reality,, and that these works give man a glimpse of the life he will live and the power he will be able to exercise when he develops the latent divine lite within him to the point where it will be active and alive sufficiently to enable him to understand the working of the divine life and the laws under which it operates. Jesus represents the spiritually developed, divine man. and tbe works He did were the works of the divine Spirit. According to His statement He was the first of many brethren, all of whom and all of us, can do these works and greater works when we become His disciples, and. follow Him ' in life and conduct until the God life in us is unfolded into conscious action. - ,-!--;-i-'--i-.- . , Faith is the word that in the Bible is used to distinguish the working of this Divine life and law. ? By this faith Jesus lived and worked and we are incited to have this faith that Jesus had. This is - quite different from having faith in Jesus. When we have the faith .of Jesus we shall have the spiritual, divine life He possessed and because we have it we shall also be able to live by faith, to work by faith, to have the power of faith and to enjoy the fruits of the Spirit.
