S S It was 150 years ago today that congress passed the act creating the American navy. For that 150, years the United States navy has a record of glori- us victories that has no equal in history. It is fating that the gov ernor ha3 issued a proclamation calling upon schools and civic and commercial organizations to honor this day in our state. . S The "ladies and gentlemen" of the jury trying Willos and Kelley jerformed their duty most con scientiously, with misgivings on the part of some of the members concerning the imposition of the death penalty, but finally coming to the conclusion that the majesty cf the law must be upheld, for public safety as well as- public justice. . The taxpayers of Marion county have a right to look with satisfac tion upon the improvements being made at the penitentiary, with a view to rendering escapes of des perate men less., likely. These things cost a1 lot 'of money, espe cially when followed by such "long winded trials as were .concluded yesterday. ' - ' . ; : - -. And these things ' lead up J.6 a time when, no doubt, the famous report concerning the penitentiary may be safely-published.. "J NAVY IS HONORED TODAY ANNIVERSARY!
