HIS IDE 1 JEWETT Extraordinary Time Is Made in Trip From Boise to Salt Lake City A WONDERFUL CAR An American gentleman in dear old London was bragging about his automobile. He ended (his eulogy by declaring: "It runs so smoothly you Can't feel it, so rafe'fly.you cftn't hear It, has such perfect ignition you. can't smell it, and -as for . speed boy,' you can't see it.- . r. i"But1 my word,; old dear," in terrupted the -ETiton; anxiously. how,d you know "the. bally thing la there? '.That is why t is regarded as necessary by automotive experts that new-spartc -plugs be installed at least once a year. ; In a thrilling dash through the night, a stock Jewett set a new. record from Boise to Salt Lake City, covering 478 v miles in 8 hours, 33 minutes, averaging 55.8 miles an hour. J. M. Jenson, Jewett dealer at Boise, piloted the car, and cut down the previous record, made by a professional race driver by 1 hour 40 minutes. . Jenson's record for 1 the drive would be extraordinary even if made under the best conditions, hut besides competing i against time,' he had to combat bad weather, bad roads, and darkness. : The route was by way of Mountain Home, Pocatello, Mc Gammon, Preston, Logan and Og- den. The start waa made late at night to avoid traffic. Several detours that would have been discouraging even for: leisurely going were taken, and during part of the run rain added to the dif ficulties. - Fart or the course lay over dirt road covered with as much, as three inches of duBt, which tilled the chuck holes and made It im possible to discern vthem by the light ? of the swiftly moving car, so that the going was extremely hazardous. However, maximum speed was possible over long, dis tances, and so the Jewett was en abled to establish the average speed of 55.8 miles an hour.
