Received Theodore . Ackland Harper, Portland author,; has had a new book published recently, "Singing Feathers." The first number was received in Salem today and was autographed to Miss Gunnell of the Gunnell and Robb studio, who took some portraits of the author when he was here last spring in t the interest of the Salem Arts League. From .; the illustrations 1 whibh are by' Florenz Clark, one I knows the story is of the fairies I again as was a previous book of his, "The Mushroom Boy." The book will make its debut in Port land next Monday .when it will be displayed in a window of Gilt's. Degree Work Exhibition. ,- One t of the most anticipated meetings of Chad wick chapter of the Eastern Star each year is that at which the Past Matrons' Asso- i ciation take charge in the presen tation of their degree work. At the meeting on Tuesday evening i the Past Matrons presented a lit erarally flawless exhibition, beau tifully done in every detail. The feature which will probably be remembered the longest of all was the ceremony honoring, Mrs W. P. Babcock, present matron of the chapter, when a group of six Mrs. Amos Vass, Mrs. Ira Darby, Mrs .
