Session Will be Held ui Portland Septem ber 12 to 25 The Odd Fellows of Oregon are to entertain many train loads, of eastern Tisitors at the 101st an- nual session of the Sovereign ' Grand lodge-, which meets in Port land. September 21-25 1925. Al . though the gathering will be held In Portland, and the 7.000 mem bers of the oreder In that city are i directly handling the big conven tion yet the task falls upon the whole state and every member of i the t order Is contributing toward ! the entertainment fund, which , will aggregate nearly $50,000. I The city of Portland is contribut ' lng 120,000 out of their combined I convention fund which was aub l scribed early in rthe 'year to handle some sixteen major convention whlch.were to meet. In the city of Portland during v the season.. m The Odd Fellows are one of the largest, if net the largest, frater nal organixation in the world, and this, is a world gathering. The ' grand sire of Australia will be , present to represent" that section. There will be several: thousand . from the provinces of " Canada, where there are many flourishing Odd Fellow lodges. A .number of states of the east are sending special train loads, there being three Special trains from Chicago One la termed the Odd Fellow spe cial,' and will carry the Grand Sire Herbert A. Thompson, and his staff of officers with a number of the delegates from that' part' of (he. country. Another is the Re- fcekah . special - which will convey the president of the Rebekah as semplles. Myrtle W.. Tandy, and soma two hundred representatives Vo the association of Rebekah as semblies.; There will also be Hoosier state special,' conducted by. the Odd Fellows i of Indiana and several .carloads from Wash? ington. D. C, which 'is the home . , of E, W. Bradford, deputy grand - sire of the Sovereign Grand. lodge. One of the big eastern' delegations ; will? be from the state of Penn sylvanla. " Pennsylvania' has more - Odd; Fellow lodges than any 'other statl in the country. The Noble French Will Usher in New; Era -in Prune.. Industry Here. A new era In the prune Indus try of the Salem district is being ushered In, by the Noble French prune. Like many great varieties of fruits' and vegetables, the Noble French , Is an accident. Fred Weaver, out at Myrtle Creek, Douglas county, found the first tree among a shipment of nursery stock. It .was manifestly a cross, and attempts to run down the par ticular origin of the fruit have been in.vain. Noble Andrews' route 6, box 7, Salem, has been working on this prune men, says this prune' will revolutionize- the prune '.industry In this, .district, lit expects; to take all; the grafts Mr. Andrews ill allow him Elijah Kurtz, one of the leading men In the prune'indnstry of this district.
