' Puco is a nitro-cellulose mixture which gives a hard, yet lasting surface. It dries so rapidly that it is -impossible to apply U with a brush; so it is put on with an air gun which shoots the puco In a fine spray over the body. This .."spray gun" method, pre sented difficulties when efforts were made to use two different colors on the same body, as it was Impossible to bring the two colors together evenly. This was solred at. the Olds Motor Works by the use of ordinary brown wrapping paper and plain grocery store corn starch paste. v The first step in finishing Olds- mobiles is a thorough cleaning of the body and painting of the Inter lor. Then an oxide metal primer is applied to the body, after which it is; dried over.ntght in" an oTen with a temperature of 150. degrees. Next a putty, glaze Is applied and again the body goes into an oven. this time heated to 165 degrees. A sand surface is. then applied with' an air gun after which the body is rubbed with water and sand paper.. Spot putty Js again applied and the body is dried once more to, remove all moisture. ; The body is thea ready for color and a ground coat of color Is ap plied. This, as well as. all preced ing. coats, is put on oyer the en tire pxterior surface. : when the ; two colors are ap plied the lower portion of the body is then given our coats of Ducp of the final color.
