Device Helps Blind to Read by Sound ,ls Said LENIXGARD Professor Ros ing, a famous oculist of this city, has invented a new device by means of which it is claimed the blind are able to orientate them selves and to read. In this ap paratus all daylight effects are re placed 'by sound. "Experiments carried out In the Leningrad In stitute for the Blind showed that the children, after the use of the apparatus was explained to them. were able by the different shades of sounds to define many articles in the room and to recognise per- sons who were passing them. Professor Rosing is working to perfect his aparatus and 'is also evolving a new ' radio apparatus for transmitting graphic images at a distance. . By means of this apparatus. Professor Rosing says. every letter of the alphabet will be expressed by different sounds. So far he has succeeded In con triving definite sounds for 18 let ters and is hopeful of his ultimate task.
