Salem is $175,000. A committee of the Portland Chamber of Commerce some days ago named this as the amount that would be subscribed by the people of that city, towards the $640,000 capital stock of the proposed company. The Oregon ian of yesterday contained the fol lowing news item, showing that the amount is believed to be forth coming soon:) At a meeting yesterday of fa small group of Portland business men interested in subscribing the city's quota of $175,000 wanted to assure erection of a big linen mill in the Willamette valley, stock subscriptions totaling $52,000 were recorded. These were made by eight men who sat in the con ference with a delegation from Sa lem, 'and three other participants asked a little time in which to con sider the amounts they would sub scribe. Those who attended the con ference said .that the enthusiasm developed assured that Portland's committee, would obtain the full quota in a short time. The meet ing was held in the directors room of the United States Nation al bank. Tom Kay, state treasur er, and Colonel W. T. Others whose subscribtions put the aggreite to $52,000 were Julius L. Meier, Emery' Olmstead, Nathan Strauss (on behalf of Pleischner, Mayer & Co.); Frank lin T. Griffith, W. L.
