REED DECLARED BEST HEAVER OF HORSESHOE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS ARE STAGED THURSDAY WibiOn RearheM Finals; Deciding Contest Hotly Contested Tiy Ts'rj Ermel Reed is the winner of the Salem high school horseshoe pitch ing contest which has been con ducted there during the past few weeks. He won the victory by a narrow margin from Julius Wil son. , a the semi-finals , Reed de feated Walter Martin by a score of 21 to 11. Wilson defeated Leonard and Gregg. The final games were played yesterday between Reed and Wil son and was witnessed by a large crowd of high school students. Reed lost the first match but won the, last two, with the last game see-sawing back and forth. Both playtrs were throwing the shoes close to the peg, with the result that many ringers were made. Reed, as champion player, wins the $5 baseball glove awarded by the Anderson Sporting goods store and Wilson secured the standard official baseball, also awarded by the same firm. OREGON LOSES IN TENNIS SEATTLE, May 28 Washing ton's five man tennis team easily defeated the University of Oregon racquet wielders, winning every set' here today. Bill , Adams was the only Oreeon player that forc ed a Washington player to three eets before admitting defeat. Joe Livergood won the match 7-, 2-6, 6-3. .
