followed. The queen's train, led
by the four heralds, made its ap
pearance at the' east end of the
inclosure, and the procession.

Prof. Mathews Gives Crown .
Queen Lucia received her crown
from the hands of Professor Math
ews, one of the Willamette pro
fessors best liked by the students,
and the queen and her party took
their places in the court. Miss
Fay Spaulding gave a vocal solo
immediately after the crowning of
the queen. -
The May dances which followed
the "crowning of the Willamette
queen were a representation of the
four seasons doing ; homage to
Queen Lucia. The features of this
event were the. Autumn Leaves,
the Winter Snowflakesj and the
nolo dance given by Miss Lois
Moorhead.

the Autumn, which;ineluded asters
and leaves, ana the norm wina in
the person of Mildred Herwig;
the Winter which included the
snow-flakes and a rather unique
snow man; Spring, whch includ
ed 'forget-me-nots spring beauties,
violets and the spirit of Maytime
in the person of Lois MoOrhead;
the Summer, which included the
cornflowers, roses, butterflies, and
the sun goddess in the person of
Llllie. Christopherson
The" winding of the May pole
followed the season dances. In
this event boys as well as girls
took part, and it was perhaps one
of the most complicated dances
given at Willamette for some time,
The ; boys were dressed in white
with colored . sashes and ties of
pastoral shades, and the girls had
becoming dresses that matched the
ties and sashes of their partners
Event Is Well Received
The dances as a whole werej well
given and shewed that a great deal
of practice had been given in their
preparation. The winter snow
flakes were especially good in this
respect, . although the autumn
leaves were probably the best re
ceived of any of the events, i
The Willamette baseball team
secured a 5-4 victory pver the Pa
cific university squad in the game
which started at 3:30 p. m. The
largest crowd to witness a base
ball game on Willamette-field this
year were present.
