Daugherty was! up from Cottage Grvefrom Saturday until Monday, going over the, de tails of changes being, made in the logging operations for his mill here. Some new railroad is being put in' to transport 'the logs from the woods to the mill, and other work completed to enable them to operate without loss of time during the good weather. At present they have gone back o "horse logging" until tnese cnanges are.maae rain er than shut down the mill. A Thomas Childs, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. ,D. The Associated ! Charities are hindered considerably each year and j undue . suffering is "caused by the situation. The plan proposed by Rev. Martin Fereshetlan, local attorney and pastor of the Uni tarian church, suggests the menir bership method of securing the funds. 5 i It is proposed to have 3,0t)0 persons secure a memDersmp into the organization at $1 per person, which. will give the 'association enough working capital and a re serve for the next year. H. Scott, market road ! engineer for the highway commission. The new law enacted by the legislature requires that the high way commission pass' upon the market rood program of the varl ons counties, providing financial assistance; is i desired from the market, road fund of the state. Marion- eddnty is: TrDrking out a careful, program on market road building and it is not expected that trouble will result when the project is submitted for approval. It Is expected that three miles of pavement will be added to the road between Stay ton and 'Meha- ma; also the1 road between Silver ton and Silver! Creek falls will be completed in order that travel may be made to the falls the year round. It is also proposed to con struct a cut-off from Turner to the Pacific ! highway, but just where the cutoff will be located has not been determined. From all indications the coun ty will favor gravel roads because an Increased mileage can be se cured under the" hew process of construction.: Between 15 and 17 miles of road, will be cared for thi3 year. j . A tentative five-year program will be outlined this year in order that all work done this year will dovetail Into a general scheme. The original five-year road pro gram under -the $850,000 bond Issue, closed last year. . SeDtember or October.
