Faces Serkras' Charge -
J. H. Tanzer was placed in the
county Jail yesterday in Heui of
$S00 bail, which he was unable to
raise at a late hour. Early yes
terday morning Tanzier, who lives
at 1930 West Nob Hill, was ar
rested, by the police and charged
with molesting a yoong - woman.
It is alleged that Tamer and the
youcg -woman, who were, not ac
quainted, left the ..street car to
gether and i that he walked . with
her a short ways and then mo
lested , her. The young woman
gave a description of the man to
the police and he was soon under

Bicycle Thefts
The theft of a bicycle from the
residence of Frederick Hagerman,
674 North Commercial street, was
reported to the police recently.
Five Accidents Fatal
Five of the 54 accidents re
ported to the state industrial ac
cident commission, for the .week
ending March 26 proved fatal.
These were E. M. Ryiand, logger,
Astoria; ' Everett E. Emmett,
chaser, Clatskanie; Charles Pur-
cell, boatman, Jefferson; Alvin A.
Lindeman, teamster-laborer, Mo
doc. Point, and Frank P. Tye, log
ger, Parkdale. Of the total num
ber reported, 472 were subject to
the provisions, of the: compensa
tion act, 91 from firms and cor
porations 'that have rejected the
provisions of the act. and one
from a public utility corporation
not subject to the provisions of
the act.

Space has been leased from the
Northwest f'roltj Products com
pany by Baker, Kelley iMac
Laughlin, Inc., for their barreling
operations this season. The com
pany will open the new quarters
April 1. Marshall and New Ore
gon strawberry, contracts are still
being written by the firm for their
Albany, Lebanon. Woodburn and

Stayton Bank Boys Plant
The First State & Savings bank
of Stayton has! purchased the
property, of the defunct Brown
Petzel Lumber company to satis
fy Judgment secured against the
firm by the bank. The judgment
was for 317,000, but with receiv
ers expenses, attorney fees, inter
est and other costs, amounted to
$19,058.55. Real property was
bid in for 318,523.55, and the
personal property for 1535. Re
ceivers costs were $1076, attor
ney's fees, $750, and interest and
incidentals made the amount In
excess of the original claim ! al
lowed. The company Is In bank
ruptcy proceedings,-' and property

Overloaded Track Picked
S. W. Miller of Roseburg was
fined $23 in Justice court for op
erating an overloaded truck on
the Pacific . highway. The arrest
was made by state officers.
Grand Jury Called r
The Marion eounty grand jury
will convene Wednesday morning
after a short recess. One of the
principal cases to be brought to
the attention of the investigating
body is that of Clarence Thomp
son, former - cashier of the state
treasurer's office, who is facing a
charge of shortage in his accounts.
