Beckley has raised wheat in Adams county. Wash., , for the past 20 years, and has de cided to finish his college course here, while his daughters. Irene and Marian are attending Willam ette. -, . . . Prof. "Wesley B. Beckley Js a forme wheat grower of eastern Washington. : He is now an in structor of science land history in the high school at : Waldport, Or. He graduated from Willam ette with the class of 1910. Mrs. Alfred Beckley is a grad uate of the University of Califor nia. She was supervisor of music in the schools of Palo Alto, Cal., prior to her marriage. She lived in Mexico during part of the re volution and had several hazard ous experiences with the bandits and rebels. Mr. Beckley is one of the proprietors of La Hacienda E1 Chocoy" of Mexico, an estate comprising 100 sections -of range and agricultural lands, part of which is leased for oil to the vari ous companies operating n Mexi- co, among them the Standard of New Jersey and the Royal Dutch Shell. , ,X'y ;!' ,- Mr. Edwia Beckley has farmed in Franklin county, ; Wash., and at Jefferson, Or. He is now one of the. owners of the Sunnyside Fruit Farm, where he is endeavor ing to produce better, and bigger prunes and cherries. Dr. G. C. Bellinger is superin tendent of the Oregon state tuber culosis hospital. He is a. gradu ate of Willamette' university school of medicine and has taken post-graduate work at Harvard. : Mrs. Bellinger is also a graduate of Willamette and holds a M.A. degree from the same school. Mr. Raymond Albee is a mem ber of the firm of Burdette-Albee Motor company of Portland, state distributors for the Gardner car. Mr. Russell B. Fields is pro prietor of The Lily confection ery of Corrallis, which he has pur chased and Improved since his re turn from the A. E. F. - The families were "seated at two large tables in the home. -The color scheme of lavender and white was artistically carried out In place cards and floral decora tlons. ; : " " The i grandmother; Mrs. J. W. Beckley, had the seat of honor at one table, served by Alfred W Beckley, while, the grandfather, . Mr. J. W. Beckley, was seated at the other table, presided over . by Dr. G. C. Bellinger. The youngest member of this group was little Doris Anne Beck ley, aged three months. Grand father Beckley claimed special at tention and consideration due to his 75 summers. In the interest of one of Sa lem's most vital projects, that of the ' Smith-Hughes work in voca tional education. Miss Bess Chap pell, etate supervisor of home eco nomics education, was in town yes terday. Miss Chappell makes her headquarters in Corvallis, , but spends an Increasing amount of time on various circuits through out the state. ; : 5; j "I Already this work has been go ing on in Salem for five years. since the federal organization ; of the movement. Miss Chappell not only supervises the Smith-Hughes work in the high schools but also attends to the organizing of spe cial adult classes. It is the plan of the. system to reach those wom en who will appreciate the assist ance of an expert, for just a nom inal fee. In millinery and dress making, in order, as Miss Chap pell put it.' that each win be able to "make a dollar do what five has had to do before." At 2:30 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon of this week the local millinery and dressmaking classes will meet for reorganisation. A schedule has already been worked out whereby those who desire this excellent - service . in self-training may register for classes, in the morning, afternoon, or evening. In time this interesting work will probably expand;, to include classes in foods and nutrition, and in fact all phases having to deal with the home. Mrs. J. W. ilclnturff was the inspiration, for a delightful after noon of bridge on Friday when Mrs. Earl Pearcy invited friends to make up three tables of the diversion. Seasonal flowers , and foliage were used in the rooms. The guests were charmed by two piano numbers, Schuman's Etude and the 12th Rhapsody (Liszt), played by Miss Frances Virginia Melton.
