LADY BOLSHEVIST Isadore i Duncan, Russian Dancer, Is Sadder and Wiser After Russia Pretty Isadora Duncan, the dancer, with the classic figure and futurist Intellect, is now playing the part ot the prodigal daughter. Stranded in Berlin, after fleeing from the ugliness and filth ot Communistic Russia, her jewels gone and no vaudeville contracts in sight, she renounces Bolshevism and asks the good God that she declared twelve short months ago in . her emotional radical frenzy to be nonexistent to grant her wish1 to return to America. During her last dancing tour in this country she waved the Red flag before ber audiences and boasted ot her Bolshevism. "-' She left with a jeer on her lips and said she was going to Russia, where the people -were hot slaves to capitalism and where life was worth the living. ' Sadder and wiser now, bruised and wilting like a crushed rose, she sobs for the protection of the society that ehe once abjured. Yet she is barred from this country by reason of her own utterances. She says she is not a Bolshevist. that Bolshevism is ugly and hate ful, and she doubtlessly speaks truly. I Isadora Duncan is like thou sands of others who have suffered from radicalism, which, in thif country at least, is an- emotions' disease. While in the United States she was a stage favorite She. was feted and admired be cause of her physical charms. She became satiated with the very ad miration she received, and craved excitement. . She lived lavishly under what she termed the capitalistic system Ehe denounced i what she called the wage slaves who worked for others, while the box-off icq re ceipts were made up almost whol ly of the contents of pay envel opes. Finally she married a Rus sian Red and departed for Russia, shaking from her dainty slippers the profane dust of , the United States. Now she is starving in Berlin. Her Red husband has left her. She .says she tried to get a divorce In Russia; but the soviet law re quires that both parties desiring a divorce shall appear before the divorce clerk. The office is open only in the mornings and her, tem peramental husband could never be persuaded to dress and go down-town , until late in . the af ternoon, t When asked about the present whereabouts of Yessendin, her. soul mate and poet of the Soviets, she replied: "Oh, he has gone into tho Caucasus to become a bandit. He writes that he is going to be a robber, to get thrills." Pretty Isadora fc now barred from this country nd from France, because of he? radical utterances and her marriage to a Bolshevik. Bnt she says she is a Bolshevik Do longer an never was one at heart; it was a pose. Her! condition is somewhat similar to th Of Emma Goldman in London. These two women have learned to their sorrow that when they were espousing Com munism tbeyi were playing with fire. They are. now prodigal daughters; Vut the immigration laws do nof permit the American government to play the part of the father 6t the prodigal. Per haps it fs 1 mistake. It is pos sible that An amendment to the present lafs may be devised that will perrtt some of these self exiles wh) have paid the price of their folk to return. They were sincerely delud ed. One of the tragedies of hu man existence is that sincerity is no guaranty for verity. In numerable are the tragedies and heratbreaks that come - from sin cerely believing that which Is not true.; The eyes of these women have been, opened. It might be well If 'they could be permitted to return and tell the American people the cause of their dissillu sionment. Yet such a course is hedged about by dangers. Society must consider the greatest good for the greatest number. The law that Would permit these women, who seem sincere in their repentance, to return would be used by nv.ny others as a pretext to slip into the country carrying the contra bandof Communist poison in thnir brSTnT.
