(AP) The churches Qf Great Britain have in creased in membership in the last year on a scale not' recorded since the great Welsh revival, wun three small exceptions, the Church in Wales, the Scottish Episcopal church and the United Free church of Scotland, every denomination has increased Its number of com municants or members, the total increase recorded being 110,000. ? While this increase has been made In the adujt section of the churches, there has been a decrease ot;23,662 In the number of Sun day school scholars. The strength of the churches in Great Britain is summarized as follows: Communicants and members 5 846,187; Sunday school scholars 5,495,292; Roman Catholic popu lation (England and Wales 1,997,- 250, making a total of 13,338,729. These figures, however, are not complete, as they do not Include the statistics of the Salvation Ar my, the Free Church of Scotland, the Unitarians, except as to their Sunday schools, and' a number of smaller communions, 'such as the Plymouth Brethren. As affording a fairly complete record, however, the figures may be compared with the last 'population census of 42, 767,530. On. this basis, one person in every three is associated defi nitely with a Christian church. STATE TAX IS IN EXCESS OF CURRENT YEAR (Continued from pag 1) Boyer, county clerk, by Earl Fish er, state tax commissioner. The levy for the county is i .044330 mills while the levy for Polk coun ey Is .018161 mills, $136,076.03. With the addition of the state tax the total tax to be levied for all purposes in the county will be $1,096,535.95 as cpmp'td with $1,004,930.73 for 1924, making an increase of $91,930.73 in the total tax levy. - - In addition to the increase in the state tax, the balance of the increase Is accounted for by$85,- 000 to be paid as an Installment on retiring the county road bonds, an increase of $1500 in the mon ey to be . paid for-the one mill market road fund. There is an offset "In a decrease of $1995.16 in the county gov ernment costs and $464 in the county school fnnd as well' as sev eral other minor decreases. The insular government has . taken steps to protect the Philippine pearl beds and the pearling industry by or dering closed certain portions of the pearl fishing field around Mindanao and Sulu, during alter nate periods , ranging'; from three to five years. , a r This action is said to be ' pre liminary to a thorough regulation of the pearling industry which the government contemplates under taking after a survey of all the pearl beds in Philippine waters. The regulation of the industry by fixing open and closed seasons for', fishing in various-localities is urged by those engaged in the pearl fishing business on account of fears that the present beds in the, Sulu seas may become ex hausted in the near future.
