Full Infantry Battalfon
For Eastern Oregon Soon
. Eastern Oregon will soon have
a full battalion of infantry of the
national guard, according to an
nouncement made 'yesterday by
Adjutant General George A. White
who received reports from Baker
and La Grande that those cities
have infantry companies ' practi
cally ready for acceptance by the
government. General White has
asked the war department for in
spection dates and has sent offi
cers to eastern Oregon to complete
the preliminary work of muster
in at Baker and. La Grande. .
With the company at Hood River
already in the service and another
company yet to be formed, eastern '
Oregon will hare a full infantry
battalion. The Baker La Grande
and Hood River units are all rifle
companies and the fourth unit to
complete the battalion will be a '
machine company. General White
said that the companies hare long
been allotted to those towna but
actual muster in has had to await
on sufficient federal funds - for
