Out Each Day Expect

Announcement is made from
the bis plant of the Colombia
Tire corporation at Portland that
production has reached 100 tires
per day, and promise is made by
the executives that production
will jreach 00 to 350 tires per
day by the .middle of June. The
rapidity and ; smoothness, with
which production has gotten un
der way at Oregon's tire-building
plant: has established an enviable

record in tire-buildinc . according
to R. H. Brown, superintendent
of production, who for many
year was in complete . charge ot
the production of cord and fabric
tires f at the, Kelly-Springfield
plant in Akron and afterwards
in Cumberland. Maryland.
Mr. Brown states that It is his
experience that few, plants if any
hare erer gotten into production
so quickly on such a volume erf

With Powerful Engine
The new Overland Red Bird
will be shown at local dealer's
sales room the last of this week.
The 1923 series of the Over
land has lately been added to, by
the bringing out of a remarkably
triumphant combination of beau
ty and utility, finished, in Manda
lay Maroon, called the Red Bird.
In addition to embodying in an
unusual degree the essentials of
skillful design and solidity of con
struction, this model . is specially

bounds of refined; taste. Manda
lay Maroon is a subtle shading of
red for the body, that pleases with
rare artistic conformity, neither
making the car glaringly conspic
uous and vulgarly apparent.
Xnger Wheel Base
The ; Willys-Overland ; company
has always maintained and stead
fastly forked towards ; the end
that beauty, utility and economi
cal . performance can be assembled
in one 'unit. Comfortable , riding
qualities have always -been de-
manded in Overland design and In
order,' to. place further emphasis
on this requirement the wheel
base, of tho .Red Bird -has been
lengthened to 106 inches and the
spring base to 136 inches, f This
additional length positively guar
antees bodily relaxation, when
driving over the roughest roads..
The Red Bird has the 'famous
patented triplex' springs used on
all Overland ( cars and these
springs on a: longer wheel base
give riding comfort in the highest
degree possible. It is admitted
the entire load of the car rests on
the springs. In Overland con
struction . the load is carried be
tween the two extreme points of
the car, the ends of the OverlandH
springs on the Red Bird being 13G
inches apart; the. body rests on
them as if in a hammock.

The engine in the Red Bird is
larger and more -powerful, yet
preserving all the facilities of the
Overland motor ' for giving unus

ing. Overland cylinders are lapped
revolving polishing stone which'
produces a smooth surface and a
bore that is round and straight,
removing -any . slight roughness
resulting from the reaming oper

made of specially selected mater-;
lal and there are only two wear
ing points between the valve - and
cam shaft, i The valve tappets arc
of the mushroom type, a flat wear
ing surface which rests-on. the -entire
width of the - cam; ourf ace

entire earn face and tappet fact.'
The clutch which Is of the sin-;
tie plate disc type, smooth in op
eration and adjusted in less than
teq minutes when necessary, is
enclosed in a case giving com
plete! (protection fjrom, dirt arid
grit, and runs in oil insuring Pro
per lubdication at all times. The
crank shaft has a large and ac
curately machined flange, for car
rying the flywheel and Is one of
the msln reasons for that notice
able lack of vibration In the Over
land. '
