Mansfield, pri?idfnt of the Oregon. tate Farm bureau federation, is to be In Salom to day to participate Irk' the logan berry conference relative to per manent organization and a resnj lar advertising campaish for tho loganberry Interests. A 'telegram sent to Mr.' Mans field by II.' II. tMiimford of the Plfesent loganberry association, brought the reply that he woiiM be glad to come and give what ever assistance he" could : give In making the movement a success. The Salem Chamber of Cpm-i merce ha3f been taking' great In terest in' this movement, arid has sent out thousands of letters and postals for this arid other simi lar meetings.- The meeting itself is to be held in the club auditor ium, and the club is planning a follow-up campaign for whatever definite action is taken in' I the matter.. ; :; '. :f,' ; Reports already received from the questionnaire sent Knit through the: chamber of commerce Indi cate that the farmers will be al most a unit in appropriating mon ey front their crops to' help adver tise the' loganberry. - It has been figured out that if they should sign up 10,000 tons of logaiis this year, at one-tenth of a cent a pound. It would give an advertis ing fund of $20,000. If only one- half pf that tonnage I should sign or pay. even that would make $10,000. which it: Is believed wdttld be of vast value In helbfrig to open new markets. : .? ' All loganberry growers are fe-j quested to ' participate in the meeting and gi7e their personal support toward making a market for their fruit crop that will pay theriV for their labor of produc tion. ' f ! 1 ifv 3 A questlonaire was. recently sent out through the Salem Cham; ber of Commerce otffioe, asking. the farmers - It they-would- con tract to pay one-tenth of1 a cent a pound for a lonahberry- adver tising fund, and if they would en-. dorse' the appointment o a com mittee to - handle; the publicity matter. ' Out of the large number of Vreplies received, only three have said "Xo;" the Others L en dorse' it. One Japanese grower stands pat for the publicity as sessments another grower says that he speaks for at least 80 per cent of his community, in rup porting the plan. The indications are that the meeting today; will break 'all records for loganberry grower attendance- "CongrssionaV blocs are the lat est in children's toys.
