That day was celebrated all over the world, the first and only holiday that all men ever agread upon. Some people tried to make it a gala day. It couldn't ever be that. It is the most solemn day that mankind ever recognized. There are so many homes deso late, so many lives shortened, so many minds touched and tortur ed beyond recovery, so many com forts destroyed, that it couldn t be a Joyful celebration. Maybe not in sackclotlt and ashes, but always In solemn gladness, the day shall be observed. America Suffers Least America was touched more lightly by the heavy hand of that awful war than any other of the contestants. There may be more spirit of rejoicing, even ot levity, here than anywhere else. Maybe America shouldn't pretend to be desolate as the others that suf fered more erribly. But aince this was to merica a war ot brotherhood and not of conquest or even of self-defense. It is due to the conscience that drove the khaki-clad troops overseas and the folks at home to every sac rifice that the supernumeraries could offer, to make it a solemn a ndthankful day and not an oc casion tor levity Armistice day is here. Let ns observe it for what It really means to every American. 4 DIED cHvPAKn Mrs. James R CVionard of Goldendale. Wash- WVjri. tno-tnn wife of sauies R. She- pard and mother of Walter J.
