FELT SHARPLY
Good Buyng Tends to Check
Decline and Cause Slight
Upturn at Close
OLIICAGO, Sept:- 23. Wheat
broke eharply today as a result of
news from abroad which told of
a more favorable political situa
tion and becauee of a decline at
Liverpool. There was general
selling at the start and some atop
oss orders were caught on the
vray down. The finish was weak.
at a net toss of 1 7-8 to 2 1-4
cents, with December 31.05 7-8 to
11.06, and May $1.10 to $1.104.
Corn was off 5-8 to 1 1-2 cents;
oats declined 1-8 to 2-4 cents and
provisions were unchanged to
62 Vi cents higher.
Cable news and trade reports
were of a more peaceful nature
This caused some selling of long
wheat by the "war'' bulls,' and
prices slid downward - before thi
demand became broad enough to
absorb the offerings. There was
some good buying on the breaks
which tended to check the declln
ing tendency, and toward the fin
ish, week-end evening up 'by
horts gave the market a slight
upturn.
Corn and oats were affected by
the action of wheat and averaged
lower, although the inside fig
ures were not maintained as local
sentiment was inclined to the bull
side and on the breaks numerous
small buying orders were brought
out.
Provisions averaged higher with
renewed buying of nearby deliv
eries of lard by leading packers.

Session Yesterday
NEW YORK, Sept. 23. Stock
prices moved to higher ground In
today's brief uo'.idaj session,

Speculative interests who had
sold for the decline, apparently
were disinclined to remain un

of the more faHontble situation in
