The organization cf Polk and Marion counties has been been ac tively carried on during this last five days. Every town in the two counties is ready for the opening of the roll call. "The people throughout the two counties who really know what the Red Cross is doing are not only ready, but are anxious to co-operate in making the roll call a suc cess," said Chairman B. TV. We are receiving phone 'calls from practically every) district relative to the securing o a corps of assis tants. Some people who have been active have refused to assist because of their inability to place the greatness of (the cause above local and petty jealousies. I am happy to report, however, that this condition has been met Infre quently and that! the residents of Polk and Marlon counties are practically working as a unit this year." t Board Breaks Record. The collection has never before been made pub lic and it Is through his courtesy that the Red Cross was given the privilege of using the pictures In conjunction with the roll call. "According to present arrange ments, every resident of Marion and Polk counties will he visited personally by a representative of Willamette chapter before the completion of the roll call." said Mr. McDaniels. "We are especial ly anxious to have it known that the roll call is not a drive or a campaign. The Red Cross is oper ating on a peace basis and will makean annual appeal to the pub lic through Its. roll call. The roll call Is simply a renewal of mem berships.." State Institutions F-Mger. "Under the organization this year, pract'cally every state Insti tution and large plant is handling it own renewals. It was thought more expedient to .have these larger institutions carry on their own work, as the sending in of outside solicitors interrupts the routine of the offices." The active solicitation will be gin on Armistice clay and close on Thanksgiving day. Every chair man or every scnooi aisiricc, as well as every rural school teacher, has been made an active worker this year.
