Men tioning the suspension of operations by the American Woolen company and the announced intention of the Pennsylvania railroad to reduce its working force, Samuel Gompers, president ot the American Federation of Labor, in a statement today that action ot corporations which today lay oft thousands of men is nothing ess than a tremendous indictment of management and a heinous offense against a people in need of every pos sible ounce of production. Portland to be Sulphur Port for Northwest PORTLAND, Ore.. July 2S. The city has been selected by the Texas Gulf Sulphur company as its distrib uting point for the entire northwest. Sulphur is to be brought in motor ships from the Gulf of Mexico and distributed from here by rail. Ral and water tennirial facilities provid ed here are given by officials ot the company as the reason for their se lection of this port, and are declared to be superior to the facilities ot any other port on the Pacific.
