They vera married Saturday and sailed the tame, day for a wedding trip of Sev ern months in Eurooe. Toe announcement is of very much interest to many Salem folk wh re member Corine Riley as a school girl spending many years in Salem. It also Is quite a s urprise for she has been expected to arrive in Salem this month for a visit with relatives and friends. Mrs. Henley Is the daughter of Charles Riley ot Portland and is a granddaughter of Mrs. E. C. Small and a niece of Mrs. George J, Pearce of this city. - r She has become In late years a pop alar cinema star and her work, has fcn closelv watched .hv Ka1m fnlV for a number ot pictures- in .which, she has starred, have appeared In Salem. In the matrons room at the city hall tor a very in terestlng meeting. Mrs. C. P. Bishop presided and the republican and dem ocratic platforms were, read and dis cussed. Ten women were present. ' Mr. and Mrs. Charles Victor Ross ot Roseburg arrived Monday and are guests ot Mr. and Mrs. Lee Cantield while Tisitlng in Salem. I '-Miss Helen Piter-of Hood River, and Miss Mary Stoneberg ot Portland, who are taking the summer course at the state normal school at Monmouth have returned to that city after a short Tisit at the B. E. Carrier home in this city. Miss Vera Jewett of San Francisco, who has been, Tisitlng for several weeks in Salem as the guest ot her wore a irock or pink cnuion ana carried pink nwwt peas. The land involved in the suit in volves 160 acres, part ot a donation land claim settled upon in 1852 by Henry Ploch. The land Is in what Is now North Portland. Ploch died I" 1813 before any survey ot, the land had been made or a patent granted. Subsequently one Eliza beth Thomas filed on the land as a donation claim, made proof, and re ceived a uatent from the government The plaintiffs allege fraud by Mrs. Thomas and aver mat sne Knew or Ploch's prior holding, and also as sert that the present holders ot the land took conveyance with that knowledge. The suit sought to have the defendants in the present case declared trustees of certain parts ot the land for the Ploch heirs, and that the heirs be declared equitable own era of the land. Th defendants filed a demurrer to the complaint which was sustained In the lower court and which is . upheld by the onlnion today..'
