Speeders Are Arrested Two men were arrested by Traffic Officer Verden Moffitt late yesterday afternoon for exceeding the speed limit as required by the city ordi nance. Ileldeiica Is Burned The residence of Peter Berg, the grocer, at the east end of Ash street, wai badly damaged by fire Sunday shortly after noon, says the Polk County Observer. The blaze Is sup posed to have originated from a de fective flue. The roof of the build ing was almost entirely burned, and me structure otherwise damared by water. When the alarm was turned in the roof of the structure was ablaze and before the firemen' could turn on the water the entire roof was more or less on fire. Once the water got at the fire it was soon quenched. Most or the furniture had been removed. To all appearances this warning Is founded upon fact. and It behooves us all to conserve the supply of gasoline. Since the re cent shortage cars hare been getting practically all they wanted. The lo cal dealers went Into the market and drought In the gas. But they are being warned that they cannot much longer expect to secure an extra rap- ply. Request for the opinion was received from several county treasurers of Eastern and Southern Oregon. Cowatlee Get Penalties The counties, and not Irrigation districts are entitled to receive pen alties accumulating from delinquent taxes on lands Included within such irrigation districts, according to At torney General Brown.
