A. Taylor of Marion countv- was responsible for securing the elk from the state game and fist commission. He. Mark McC'al lister and others have been work ng hard on the proposition for ome time, and now have the pro.mse of a second car of elk. They ire brought from the commissions Wallowa pasture, 4 5 miles from Enterprise. Mr. Taylor went to Enterprisi to bring the elk down, and was compelled to haul them on sleds ii crates 4 5 miles with the ther mometer registering 4 5 degrees b.'low zero The Silver Falls Timber compiny ran a special train from Sil rerton with the elk and 300 peoale went up to see them turned nit. While there they raised by subscription $4")J to pay the freight on the next car of elk. Mr. Taylor is very enthusiastic about the elk. He has killed elk there, for a number of years, and says the Abiqua basin, where the animals were turned ljose, is an admirable place for them, and that the forests of Oregon should be restocked with elk which would be of great commercial value in a few years. There is now enough land an 1 timber not in . ue in Marion county to raise enough elk to supoly the county with meat perma nently, provided the animals arj protected from hunters j-uffi-ckutly to prevent their being ex;erminated acain. McDonald, 26"9 Fairground road sustained painful bruises and t his wife and two childten bq were J with him narrowly escaped serious ; injuries when his machine collided with the delivery truck of the Peo- ' pies grocery at Chemekela and t'harch streets about 10 o'clock e- terd:y morning. 1 According to a report filed with the police. McDonald was driving outh on Church street and tJeorge Allen, driver of the delivery car, was going east on heraeketa street. Mc Donald as he drove to the corner did not see the approaching delivery car. and as a result bis machine struck the rear end of the irrocerv truck and his machine was turned completely OTer. The delivery car driven by Mr. Allen was badly dam aged, and both rear wheels were broken off.
