By Ruth Lenore Fisher W iTH Christmas day on Thurs day of thia week will come c large number of social events which have been planned for the hol iday season. One or the largest and smart est will be the Christmas dancing party for -Miss Margaret White' which her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph White, are giving on Christmas night at Cotillion hall. Invitations num bering 125 have been issued for this 'affair and it is looked forward to be delightful. Many families will as semble together for the day. For the Mr 4 been filled with busy shoppers, the windows and streets have taken on their holiday dress and are in readlr ness for Christmas, the day of days. To head the week's festivities Mr. and Mrs. Oliver C. Locke will enter tain the members of the Monday Night Five Hundred club and from that affair on through the week each day will be filled. -2 ! OVKUNOU and Mrs. Hen W. Ol cott will have as their house guests for Christmas Mr. and Oswald West and their two past week the 'streets and stores have charming daughters. Miss Helen and v. -. i;- Miss Katharine English of 2680 Cherry Avenue, . who won the llartman Brothers gold wrist watch in the jreeent contest among the girls' of the St. Joseph's parish. Miss; English wishes to thank her many friends who assisted her in winning,-, es pecially the Elks to whom much credit, is due. Miss Jean West. Mrs. West and her daughters will arrive on Wednesday and remain until : the first of next week. Mr. West will arrive for Christmas. SOMETHING novel in the way of holiday gaities is the New Year matinee dance which is spon sored by the St.- Agnes guild. The affair promises to be an event in the social world. Among the real younger set a de lightful affair of the week was the dancing party for which Miss Gene vieve, Campbell was hostess Friday night. Miss Campbell assembled her guests at the home of her grand mo: her, Mrs. James E. Godfrey on North Liberty street. The rooms were in a prettv holiday dress with wreathes of holly, mistletoe, red car nations and r.cd and green crepe pa per streamers. Between the dancing games were merrily enjoyed and Miss Janet Plimpton won the prize in a guessing contest. At the close the hostess served dainty refresh ments. The affair was held In lb Masonic temple and a very interesting program filled the earlier hours of the evening. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostess es and the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Justice and Mrs. Georue H. Bur net were hosts for a beautifully ap pointed dinner party at thHr home last Friday. The large round table was lovely with a large centerpiece or pink carnations, and at each plate Tor the matrons was a pretty cor sage boquet of violets. The many friends of Frank Cud worth Flint will be interested to know that he left Portland Saturday for Boston. Massachusetts, where he will visit for a few days before sail ing for England. Mr. Flint has been attending Reed college and was re cently awarded a Rhodes scholarship. He expected to sail from Boston the early part of the year, but recently learned that his boat is to sail from New York harbor Instead. This, ne cessitated his leaving Portland before the holidays. With a group of Rhodes students he will sail from New York on January 3 on the steamer Adriat ic. Mr. and. Mrs. Frank Flint of Sa lem went to Portland last Frlrday to see their son off.
