BIDS ON TRUCKS

Make Award
Bids were received by the -county
commissioners yesterday for the new i
trucks to be purchased by the county.
here were many firms competing
for the award and in all there were
31 bids submitted. In accordance
with the road program the county
commissioners are authorized to pur-
hase 10 heavy ' delivery trucks of!
three snd one-half tons capacity.
These trucks will be alloted to the I
different paving plants throughout j
the county.
Owing to the variety of equipment
and discounts for the acceptance of
more than one truck entered in the
different, bids, the county commis
sioners will be unable to decide on
the awards for some time.
Bids for 10 trucks ranged from
$35,500 to $57,000. The Salem Veils
company, offering the Bethlehem I
trurk. appeared to. be the lowest witn
a bid for $35.500,. Next lowest were
Hughson Co. of Portland, offerta
10 Federal trucks for $40,450. and
Otto Wilson of Salem, offering Re
public trucks at $40,700.

National Guardsman Jailed
as A.W.0.L for Missing Drill
PORTLAND. Dec. 19. Walter
Camp, a member of the Oregon na
tional guard, was In prison here to
day under martial sentence.-for fail
ure to attend weekly drills. The
court martial was held on his case.
Colonel Creed Hammond In com
mand of the guard, said, following
his repested fall ores to attend drills
after being warned to do so. Camp
was convicted of having been absent
without leave.
