Home of I " ' Z , ,, Dicky stopped his IId rush along the floor of Madison Square Garden so suddenly that I expected to see him take a header over the man near est him. His face held so chaotic a mixture of emotions that I almost laughed outright. Relief., chagrin. bewilderment, rage, all were reflect ed in his face and eyes. For a mo ment he stood perfectly motionless. glaring up at me where I sat In tne small balcony with Dr. Pettit. Then be snapped bis fingers with a gesture that I knew meant the beginning oi one ot bis uncontrollable rages and. turning on his heel, disappeared n the crowd. For a moment I could hardly be lieve my eyes. It surely was Incred ible that Dicky, after summarily leaving me in a mob such as that which swirled around Madison Sauare Garden on the night of the president's speech there, should re sent my being nnder the protection of Dr. Pettit. Common sense ought to have told him that I must have met Dr. Pettit by accident In the crowd; common decency ought to have made him grateful that I had found some one to protect me from the terrible crush of the crowd after be bad left my side to rescue a girl he knew from the danger of being killed. But I had lived with Dicky Ion? enough to realize that when he was In the grip of one of his unreason able fits of temper nothing else mat tered. P reasoned that as soon as he had seen to the sarety or the gin he had rescued that he had begun a .roh for mm. That he bad been wild with anxiety I could tell from his at titude as he rushed arouna tne au ditorium below. The 1 reaction oi finding me, safe and apparently well content In the company of Dr. Pet tit of whom be always Baa neen unreasonably Jealous naa oeen much for bis uncertain temper. Nor Do I Care." I cast a sidelong glance at Dr. Pet- tit, wondering U ne naa reruSoi niehw - Tty a certain -grim tighten ing If his lips I realized that he must have done so. it was a ions; before he spoke and be naa an w snnearance of a man trying to con trol bimseir. I knew wnai was ---lng through bis mind as well as If hs had spoken. bis thoughts aloud. I had long suspected that the young physician did not like Dicky, did not newed cheering. The people In this crowd don want to hear the president spent. They want to bear themselves yell. Dr. Pettit muttered In a disgusted tone to himself and I agreed with him. BARGAIN SIX ROOM HOUSE.
