Today's meeting was held in the Des ert gymnasium. Dr. J. A. Widtsoe. president of the University of Utah, welcoming the visitors. Following talks by A. D. Browne, Oregon Agricultural college, and Dr. E. G. Cowans, state superintendent of public instruction, Utah, swim ming demonstrations were given in the gymnasium pool. Filipino Crew Brings Destroyer Across Sea PORTLAND. June 19. With a crew composed almost entirely of Filipinos, the United States torpedo boat destroyer Jose Rizal dropped anchor in the harbor here today. A number of local naval officers, head ed by Lieutenant George E. Gandy. in charge of the Portland office of the navy recruiting ervice. met the destroyer down the river and went on board. .Naval officers here have not yet been advised how long the vessel will remain in, the harbor, but they hope she will be kept her for about a week. The purpose of the visit at this time is to speed up recruiting in the navy. The Jose Rizal has only recently been completed at San Francisco and this trip with Commander Root, U. S. N., in charge. Is the maiden voy age of the fighting craft. VEGETABLES' MEDICINAL PROPERTIES Celery !s valuable for rheumatism. as well as for nervous dyspepsia.
