Reservists May Join Marines
Word has just been received from
headquarters In Washington. D. C,
by Sergeant Jesse Hill of the ma
rine corps recruiting station in the
United States National Bank build
ing, that men who are enrolled in
the naval reserve forces and who are
on inactive duty, may be discharged
to enlist in the marine corps if they
so. desire. The marine corps Is at
present time j offering some excep
tional opportunities.

Pioneer's Funeral Held
The funeral of Mrs. Rebecca Kays,
who died at the home of her daugh
ter, Mrs. H. C. Wells near Buena
Vista, Saturday. June 14 was held at
that place Monday and the services
were conducted by the Reverend
Turnldge of Jefferson with burial in
the Buena Vista cemetery. ..Mrs.
Kays was a pioneer of 1852. settling
near Buena Vista when she with her
husband first came to Oregon. She
was 86 years of age and Was sur
vived by two of her six children, Mrs
H. C. Wells and H. C. Kays of Sa

Harvey Wells Tells How Ore

had one of the dining rooms in the
Clay'pool hotel for their headquaters,
which was artistically decorated wUh
palms, ferns, and eighty-two baskets
of roses. M. Wells stated that It
took 1100 roses to fill these baskets

headquarters.
A Hawaiian orchestra was secured
and dancing was permitted, whereby
the Oregon headquarter won proved
to be a popular place. It is estimat
ed that 20,000 people lsited th?r?
dally. Mr. Wells stated that they
wo'ild start dancing as early as nine
o clock in. the morning and would
close about twelve midnight; when
the crowd would go out on th? street
and lobby of the hotel and contlaue
for some time
. One of the greatest attractions at
the Oregon headquarters was the fa
mous loganbe:Ty Juice, known as
Phex.- Keeping account of the num
ber of gallons ud and n't e of the
glasses, and knowing the amount
each glass would contain, it was fig
ured that over 211.-000 drinks were
served. At the booth where . Phex
was served were pictures of -the lo-
