Kansas City, July C Bryan was kept busy all last night receiving congratula tions on his nomination. They came by ! telephone, telegraph and special messen j ger. ! After n talk over the wire with Senator I Jones at U o'clock this morning, Hryaii I decided not to go to Kansas City. David Ii. Hill this morning stated that be did not want the nomination for vice- I president, and would not accept it. He ' predicted that Adlai Stevenson would be nominated. Gradv, of New York, said : "He mav 'decline the nomination., but decline or not, New York's vote to the end of ttie convention will be for David B. Hill." The leaders of the movement against Hill said they would adjourn the conven tion before they will allow bia nomina tion to be made, in order to allow Mr. Bryan's wishes to be known to the delegates. Thi convention was called to order at 10:45, and nominations for vice-president were called for at once. Arkansas yielded to Illinois, who nominated Adlai E. StevenEon. About this time cries for Hill and it was made known that New York in tended to present his name. At 12 o'clock, Grady, of New York, took thu platform to name Hill. Hill quickly followed, the convention mean while becoming tempestuous and chaotic with happiness over the prospects of Hill's nomination. Intermingled with Grady's words in nominating Hill, were ficquent bursts of "I wonU accept" fiom David Bennett and "Yes you will" from the convention. Pandemonium reigned. About this time messages were flying thick and fast between Kansas City and Lincoln and and it soon became known that Bryan was protesting against thu prospective Hill stampede. He wanted some other mm. Hill appealed to Chairman Jonea for help and was finally allowed to make a speech positively declining the honor. Charles A. Towne, J. Ham Lewis and others were nominated and Mr. Lewis withdrew. At '2'Ai, Adiai E. Stevenson was nominated on thu first ballot with 55S votes. Then came a ru?h to get in the band wagon, and New York was foremost in the scramble. At 3:21 the convention adj mrned sine die l'rventnl a 'IrHKtily.
