La Grippe, for Golds, Coughs,
. AND LUNG TROUBLES,
AYER'S
CHERRY
PECTORAL
" Two years ago, I had the grippe,
: and it left me with a cough which gave
me no rest night or day. My family
physician prescribed for me, changing
the medicine as often as he found the
things I had taken were not helping
ISP.'
me, but, in spite of his attendance, I got
no better. Finally, my husband, read
ing one day of a gentleman -who had
Jiad the grippe and was cured by taking
Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, procured, for
me, a bottle of this medicine, and before
I had talten half of it, I was cured. I
have used the Pectoral for my children
and in my family, whenever we have
needed it, and have found it a specific
for colds, coughs, and Iutijj troubles."

Liberty Hall.
Mr. Hugh Gourlay announces that in
a few davs lie wilt deliver a lecture in
the First Baptist church on the subject
of "Civil and' Religious Liberty vs. A.
P. Aism, from the Standpoint of a Pro
testant American Citizen." "He. will
discuss the questions: What does
American history teach regarding the
loyalty of our 'Cat holic fellow-citizens?
and what do Catholic authorities teach
regarding the civil or temporal power of
. the pope?
Rev. O. D. Taylor cheerfully extends
the use of the church to Mr. Gourley,
who takes somewhat opposite views to
those of Rev. Sutton, who lectured last
Wednesday evening. Mr. Taylor says
'he would be glad to have all great ques
tions which are now agitating the minds
of the American people discussed in a
public manner, and will give the use of
the church to such discussions. He be
liefs in the American principles of lib
erty of speech, liberty of thought and
liberty of the press, and is willing to
make of the church a veritable liberty
hall. Some time since he bad oppor
tunity to grant tjie use of the church to
.a "sound money" advocate, but a free
silver speaker being minus, he held th6
.natter in abeyance until such time as
both sides could have a hearing.
The Lumber Trade.
Mr. J. M. Leiter of the Bridal Veil
Lumber Co., who was in town today,
speaking to a reporter of The Chronicle
on the outlook of the lumber business,
said that its future on the Pacific coast
is bright, but will be contingent upon
the development of the Snake river and
Upppr Columbia regions of the country.
Montana and Idaho are the legitimate
market for the lumber production of
Oregon, and with the founding of large
irrigation plants, already begun, will
come an enormous demand for lumber.
In years past Colorado and Wyoming
were chiefly supplied with lumber from
the coast, but unfair transportation
rates extended in favor of Texas and the
gulf country ruined the lumber trade. of
Oregon. .While these rates have been
eince lowered, the ratio of inequality
still exists and the most of the lumber
now used in Colorado is hauled over the
Denver & Rio Grande.

An Unequalled Record.
The record of the A. O. TJ. W. is un
equalled in the annals of history. Three
years without a death. The society wra
organized in 1863 and paid its first death
loss in 1871. The only expense during
this three years was the local lodge dues,
not one cent was paid into the bene
ficiary or sinking fund. Members are
only assessed when a death occurs and
their hard earned dollars are not col
lected and held in trust for the future.
The A. O. U. W. is composed of over
thirty grand jurisdictions, having a total
membership of over 350,000. Oregon is
standing on its own feet and paying its
own death losses ; its membership is over
7,000. The coet is less than 2 per
month, and when a member dies his
beneficiary gets $-2,000, not one cent de
ducted for any purpose.

None But Ayer's at the World' Fair.
Ayer's Sarsaparilla enjoys the extra
ordinary distinction of having been the
only blood purifier allowed on exhibit at
the world's fair, Chicago. Manufact
urers of other sarsaparillas sought by
every means to obtain a showing of their
goods, but they . were all turned away
under the application of the rule for
bidding the entry of patent' medicines
and nostrums. The decision of the
world's fair authorities in tavor of Ayer's
Sarsaparilla was in effect as follows:
"Ayer's Sarsaparilla is not a patent
medicine. It does not belong to the
list of nostrums. It is here on its
merits."

Geo. W. Jenkins, editor of the Santa
Maria "Times," Cal., in speaking of the
various ailments of children said:
"When iiy children have croup there is
only one patent medicine J ever use, and
mat is Chamberlain's Co-ifli Remedy.
It possesses some niedica properties
that relieve the little sufferer o immedi
ately. It is, in my opinion, the beet
couh medicine in the market." If this
remedy, is freely given as soon as the
croup cough appears it will prevent the
attack. It is also an ideal remedy for
whooping cough. There is no danger in
giving it to children, as it contains noth
ing injurious. For sale by Biakeley &
Houghton, Druggi9t.
In a recent editorial the Salem, Or.,
Independent says: "Time and again
have we seen Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy tried and never without the
most satisfactory results. Whenever we
Bee a person afflicted with hoarseness,
with a cough or cold, we invariably ad
vise them to get Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy; and when they do, they never
regret it. It always does the work, and
does it well." For sale by Blakeley &
