A SPECIFIC FOB La Grippe, for Golds, Coughs, . AND LUNG TROUBLES, AYER'S CHERRY PECTORAL " Two years ago, I had the grippe, : and it left me with a cough which gave me no rest night or day. My family physician prescribed for me, changing the medicine as often as he found the things I had taken were not helping ISP.' me, but, in spite of his attendance, I got no better. Finally, my husband, read ing one day of a gentleman -who had Jiad the grippe and was cured by taking Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, procured, for me, a bottle of this medicine, and before I had talten half of it, I was cured. I have used the Pectoral for my children and in my family, whenever we have needed it, and have found it a specific for colds, coughs, and Iutijj troubles." Emily Wood, North St., Elkton, Md. Mr. Hugh Gourlay announces that in a few davs lie wilt deliver a lecture in the First Baptist church on the subject of "Civil and' Religious Liberty vs. A. P. Aism, from the Standpoint of a Pro testant American Citizen." "He. will discuss the questions: What does American history teach regarding the loyalty of our 'Cat holic fellow-citizens? and what do Catholic authorities teach regarding the civil or temporal power of . the pope? Rev. O. D. Taylor cheerfully extends the use of the church to Mr. Gourley, who takes somewhat opposite views to those of Rev. Sutton, who lectured last Wednesday evening. Mr. Taylor says 'he would be glad to have all great ques tions which are now agitating the minds of the American people discussed in a public manner, and will give the use of the church to such discussions. He be liefs in the American principles of lib erty of speech, liberty of thought and liberty of the press, and is willing to make of the church a veritable liberty hall. Some time since he bad oppor tunity to grant tjie use of the church to .a "sound money" advocate, but a free silver speaker being minus, he held th6 .natter in abeyance until such time as both sides could have a hearing. The Lumber Trade. Mr. J. M. Leiter of the Bridal Veil Lumber Co., who was in town today, speaking to a reporter of The Chronicle on the outlook of the lumber business, said that its future on the Pacific coast is bright, but will be contingent upon the development of the Snake river and Upppr Columbia regions of the country. Montana and Idaho are the legitimate market for the lumber production of Oregon, and with the founding of large irrigation plants, already begun, will come an enormous demand for lumber. In years past Colorado and Wyoming were chiefly supplied with lumber from the coast, but unfair transportation rates extended in favor of Texas and the gulf country ruined the lumber trade. of Oregon. .While these rates have been eince lowered, the ratio of inequality still exists and the most of the lumber now used in Colorado is hauled over the Denver & Rio Grande.
