The Emporia (Kansas) Gazette has the following to say of the Great Syndi cate shows and Paris Hippodrome which ' is to appear in The Dalles on Saturday, July 6. . :: . "The New Syndicate Shows came to town this moriiing, and as sual when that popular attraction is advertised the streets were , lined with people at 11 o'clock as the;' parade moved down Com mercial street. It was one of the most creditable pageants ever witnessed in the city, and (he crowd all along the line from Seventh and Third avenues was amused' and interested with the dis -"The tents were crowed at the per formance which began at 2 o'clock this afternoon, and the entertainment howed a marked improvement over the the usual circus performances, 'many new features being introduced in the -circus performance. The menagerie was also very extensive and far superior to most wild beast exhibitions. . The Grands Rapid (Mich.) Leader has to say of the New Great Syndicate Shows and Paris Hippodrome which will exhi b't in The Dalles. . 'It was a very large crowd that at tended the circas performance given by the New ' Great Syndicate Shows last -evening. Fully 3,500 people occupied the seats of the main tent and departed at the close of the entertainment well satisfied with the exhibition they had witnessed. The character of the entire . show, from beginning to end, - in every department, is pleasing ahd above re proach. It is fromtart to finish far be' yond the ordinary circus and in quality is the peer of any in the land." San Francisco, June 56. A discharg ed Japanese cook went to the clubhouse of the Pacific Yacht Club, in Sausalito, this of ter noon, and shot Mrs Doler, wife of the club steward. When Doler heard of the shooting he pursued, the Japanese, whom he almost beat to death. The C n lition of the Japaness is critical, and Doler was arrested pending the outcome.
