Large Number of 8panlh Troops En
Bonte to Cuba.
London, March 1. A dispatch re
ceived this morning from Madrid con
firms the Associated Press report of last
night, announcing that the Spanish
government was preparing to send large
reinforcements of troops to Cuba, it such
a step was found necessary. -
It is stated that the Spanish govern
ment has issued definite orders for the
immediate transportation of seven bat
talion of troops, each composed of 900
men, to Havana. Another battalion
has been ordered to Havana from Porto
Rico, making over 7000 men dispatched
in haste to Cuba.
Ten days loss of time on account of
sickness and a doctor bill to pay, is any
thing but pleasant for a man of a family
to contemplate, whether he is a laborer,

Hall In Custody.
San Francisco, March 1. Fred Hall,
the variety-theater performer who is ac
. cased of having broken up the home of
Charles Beckman, a hotel clerk of Vic
toria, and of running away with $2,000
which Beckman's wife entrusted him
with, has been arrested here on the
charge of grand larceny preferred by
Beckman. Hall had $600 on his person.

that the schooner Rebecca Hart wood,
Captain .Vaz, has been given up as lost.
She was en route from Savanna-la-Mar
