Canton. China, Oct. 21. A bomb hid
den on the premise of Sun Chun 3; Bo,
a Chinese vernacular newspaper, the
name of which me ana The Sunrise
pell." demolished two buildlng-s. killed
one girl and one mta and wounded
seven others who are now being cared
for at a local hospital. "The Sunrise
Ben" Is located in the. heart of Can
ton's "newspaper row" -in the center of
the old city where the streets, only 12
feet wide, are faced by solid rows of
brick and stone buildings.
The two hotels, which were bombed
in the explosions of Thursday night,
were the Asia and 'Great "Western,
largest establishment of their kind in
China, and both located on the Broad
bund or thoroughfare which faces the
PesrV river.
The Victory restaurant, where four
persons were wounded, and the Bast
Gate theatre, where, two girls were
wounded, also are located on the same
bund. r ' "
The Asia hotel." where one of the ex
plosions Occurred, ia owned by the Dai
Sun company, a corporation which is
operating a department store, restau
rant, theatres i and roof garden, all in
the same building as the hotel.
m The explosion in the hotel was of
such" terrific force that the reinforced
concrete building of the Dai Sun com
pany, which 16 the tallest in China,,
vibrated from - top to bottom. Hun
dreds of customers who were in the
place at the timeof the bombing, to
gether with diners Jn ' a restaurant on
ths' sixth floor and-patrons of a the
atre on the tenth floors, were over
come with panic and rushed .for the
stairs and elevators in a mad effort
to escape from the building. They
were stopped in their flight by iron
gratings at the entrance to the build
ing, which wereslammed shut intheir
faces. Two plainly dressed women,
one of them carrying a rattan suitcase,
registered at the hotel Thursday after
noon, and after paying in advance
were assigned tot an expensive
rojh on the fourth floor, near, suites
occupied by a Chinese general and a
coloiiel. After ordering tea. the " wo
men left the hotel, leaving behind them
the suitcase containing the bomb.
The explosions increased the -unrest
which has developed in Canton as a
result of the recent capture of Fou
chow, capital of Fukien province, by
forces of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen.
