BCTIXO CONTINUATIOX 3IAKES COTTOX "MARKET STRONGER New York, Aug. 21. The cotton market chowed continued strength at the opening tday. with .prices making new high ground for the movement. This was due to s con tinuation of the buying movement, which was inspired by deteriorating crop prospects ami reporta of an improving trade demand last week. First prices were 31 t o 53 point") aoove the closing quotations of Saturday, and December contracts sold np to $22.88,, making nt advances of sbout 45 to 55 points on the active rx-sition. At this level December showed a recovery of no less than 27 points from , the low pnee of last Tuesday snd to within 17 point of tixe high record estabhshed at the beginning of July. Naturally enough this advance was sufficient to attract a good deaf of realizing, while con siderable hedging also was reported; Such offerings were readily enough absorbed for the first few minutes, but private reports came in 'reporting showers at a few points in Northwestern Texas over the week-end and the market eased off some.' 30 to 40 points from the best before the end of the morning. The opening advance was stimulated by the continued strength of Liverpool and re iterated reports of an improving demand for soods. With a further" sharp advance the market drew close to the extreme high point at the beginning cf July. lecember contracts -reached $23. OO. a recovery of nearly 300 points from the low of last Thursday. Buying was again inspired by the deteriorating crop prospects and repr.;ts of an improved trade demand. It was maintained from beginning to erul. The market clused at an advance of 52 to 58 points. Furnished by Overbeck & Cooke company, Board of Trade building: - Open. High. Low. Close. After making new low prices for all deliveries of wheat, the market turned stronger today snd from the low prices of the morning scored a substantial advance. The main csuse of the early selling was the pronounced weakness at Liverpool, that market opening at a sharp decline and later weak ening stili more, closing 2a to 4 d lower, the biggest decline being on the near month. The export demand on the break here and sales were reported upwards of 500,000 bushels here, with business at the seaboard placed at about 1.000,000 bushels in all positions. Spring wheat reports' from both sides of the line were favorable. , Shcrts covered freely. The risible "supply increased 1,394,000 sjushels. Cora rallied with wheat, after a tharp set back in the first hour. There was a good de mand for cash com apparently and the mar ket was fteady. Country offerings werw light. Export buying was of small proportions. Re ceipts were estimated at 240 cars. The. visible supply total stork showed a decrease of 2, 310.000 bushels. Oats were steady brrnghout the day. Ort the early dip in otber grains, the market was steady and there waa free buying by commis sion houses and by shorts which found offer ings less heavy than recent')-. The visible supply increased 424000 bushels. Receipts were estimated here ait 250 cars, with primary receipts 1.387,000 bashels, against 1,302,000 bushel a year ago.
